Etymology

Gr. n. mukes – fungus, Gr. neut. n. plasma – formed, N.L. neut. n. Mycoplasma – fungus form; Gr. neut. n. haema, haemotos – blood, N.L. fem. n. Didelphis – genus name of an opossum, N.L. gen. n. haematodidelphidis – of opossum blood (corrected by Oren et al., 2020)
