Etymology
Gr. n. mukes – fungus, Gr. neut. n. plasma – formed, N.L. neut. n. Mycoplasma – fungus form; Gr. neut. n. haema, haematos – blood, N.L. masc. n. Zalophus – a genus of sea lions, N.L. gen. n. haematozalophi – of sea lion blood (corrected by Oren et al., 2020)
