Candidatus Mycoplasma haematovis
(corrig. Hornok et al., 2009)
Etymology
Gr. n. mukes – fungus, Gr. neut. n. plasma – formed, N.L. neut. n. Mycoplasma – fungus form; Gr. neut. n. haema, haematos – blood, L. fem. n. ovis – a sheep, N.L. gen. n. haematovis – of sheep blood (corrected by Oren et al., 2020)
Taxonomy
Mycoplasmatales – Mycoplasmataceae – Mycoplasma – Candidatus Mycoplasma haematovis (Hemoplasma cluster, Eperythrozoon subcluster), closely related to Myoplasma ovis (16S rRNA gene sequence similarity – 98.65%) (Fig. 1)

Fig. 1. Maximum likelihood tree showing the phylogenetic position of Candidatus Mycoplasma haematovis isolate CMho-Hu-2-05.2007within the Hemoplasma cluster of Mycoplasmataceae based on 16S rRNA gene sequences. The sequence of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae JT was used as out-group (Hyopneumoniae cluster). Numbers at nodes represent bootstrap confidence values (1000 replications). Only values > 80% are shown. Bar, number of substitutions per nucleotide position. Credits: Joachim Spergser (Vetmeduni Vienna)
